Viking sax with embossed scabbard, Gotland. Blunted edge
This hand forged Viking sax has a specially fitted handmade leather scabbard with the typical brass embossings and decorations found on many Swedish originals. The scabbard hangs horizontally on the front of the body, where it is easy to reach for a fast draw and acts as both weapon and status symbol. The richly decorated scabbards and simple blade shape is very typical for the preferred battle knife of the Vikings in Scandinavia and especially on the island Gotland. Where the extremely rich Vikings contributed greatly to what is today the place on earth with the highest count of buried treasure.
On the fighting model the blade shape and point has been adapted to the standards for reenactment fighting. The blade is hand forged, hardened with oil and then tempered to become both flexible and strong. The handle is made from polished Ash wood with details and end ring hand fitted in brass. This model comes with a warranty on the blade for use in reenactment fighting. The blade is also marked with our Nordlys™ “forgers mark” so that you can be sure that it is an original from our forge. Our Nordlys™ fighting saxes are approved for all types of Viking reenactment fighting according to Scandinavian practises and standards.
