Cow horn is a fantastic material that up until about 100 years ago was widely used for many things. When plastic arrived, it replaced horns in many utility items, which were traditionally made by hand. In the past, they did e.g. spoons, combs, spectacle frames and shoehorns in just horn. Our horn products are made by a 3rd generation family business in Uttar Pradesh, India. There, the cow is considered sacred and no part is allowed to go to waste during slaughter. The horns are cleaned, sorted, boiled and polished before they are shaped. Horn is very strong and completely compostable, a sustainable material, both for you and the environment.

Handcrafts in horn are washed by hand with water and possibly washing-up liquid. They should not be washed in a dishwasher and cannot be microwaved either.
Horn is a natural material that has many properties in common with wood. It can therefore dry out over time. Feel free to treat with wood oil if necessary or once or twice a year for preventive purposes. For glass and other items that will come into contact with food, we recommend that you use a wood oil that is intended for kitchen utensils or the like.

Brass oxidizes over time and becomes darker in color. You can easily polish the jewelry with brass or silver polish. This can be bought in most grocery stores.
