Measurements & Materials

Length approx. 7mm. Height approx. 10mm.
Material: All our glass beads are handmade in the traditional way.
Patterns and colours are not painted on, but are created by molten glass wound around a plaster-dipped steel pin.
Already during the Viking Age, we Norsemen fell in love with the beautiful expression of glass beads, a love we share with the rest of the world. The process we use today is almost identical to the one the Vikings used, even though we in Scandinavia had not figured out how to manufacture glass. Yet you find thousands of intricate and usually locally crafted glass beads wherever you look where the Vikings travelled. The glass and some finished beads were imported from the East. Today, the production of the beads takes place in northern India, in a small village not far from the shores of the Ganges. There, the craft of making glass beads is a source of great pride, and the bead masters dream of passing their secrets on to the next generation. And as awareness grows among people and customers around the world who demand jewellery in durable and handmade designs, this may no longer be just a dream.

Care

Glass is a durable material that requires no special maintenance. Handle with care to avoid scratches and cracks.
