In Norse mythology, Sköll is a giant disguised in wolf form who chases the sun. Hati is the wolf said to run ahead of Sól to catch her, though in truth it is Máni, the moon, that he wants to catch. At Ragnarök (the end of the world), both wolves catch up with their prey and devour them.
