A handsome handmade reproduction of the Gjermundbu helmet. This model is made like the original and works both for combat and as a very handsome decoration on the bookshelf. The helmet has several fine details, such as the bronze chin buckle, itself a find copy, and the fine padded leather lining of high quality. Weight approx. 1.5 kg
We have worked from drawings of the find and tried to come as close as possible. However, we have adapted the size and given it a leather lining with suspension and chin strap. The helmet is built to withstand use in various types of historical fencing and has 1.2 millimeter thick steel, which, just like the original, is reinforced with crossing arched bands.
For safety reasons the helmet is both welded on the inside and riveted on the outside. The helmet's cap is made of only two wedge-shaped parts, instead of four, which also gives the helmet increased strength.
The original Gjermundbu helmet is the only preserved Viking helmet from the Nordic region. It was found during the excavations of a rich warrior grave, not far from Oslo, the capital of Norway. Besides the helmet, there was also everything else a Viking warrior might need, such as swords, axes, spears and a shield.
The helmet is also marked with the Nordlys™ "smith's mark", which guarantees the quality and that it comes from our smithy.
