We manufacture with a focus on people and the environment.
Traditional craftsmanship is still produced in many parts of the world in a traditional manner. Therefore, we constantly strive to choose partners with the best conditions and then improve what we can continuously. Long-term collaborations lead to long-term gains.
Our material choices are always based on circular thinking.
And with living materials such as wood, leather, or natural textile fibers, the ethical aspect is our primary concern. The leather and other animal products should be a byproduct of the meat industry, the wood should come from legal logging and preferably be cultivated; the same ethical considerations are made each time a material is chosen.
Right now, several exciting projects are underway in the company where we are looking at how we can improve our choice of materials to reduce our environmental impact.
Using recycled materials in production is something we invest heavily in. And where we also see great potential for future development. Already today, we manufacture most of our forging from recycled iron. We partially cast in recycled brass and are increasing our use of recycled wood and textiles.
In addition to this, we reuse existing packaging materials, manufacture almost exclusively our packaging and other paper products from recycled paper, and actively work to eliminate all plastic packaging materials from our transports. If you receive a package with bubble wrap or similar as filling material, it is because we prefer to reuse rather than discard the material.

Nordlys has always worked with natural materials..
and have also taken an interest in materials that have "been left over" and are not used. That is why we love cow horns as a material, with their minimal environmental impact and versatile uses. But we already have several products where recycled materials are used. Some examples of this are our handmade books made from paper based on recycled cotton fiber and our small colorful bead bags that are sewn from recycled fabric.
