Ash and Embla were the first humans according to Norse mythology. They were created by the god Odin, with the help of the aesirs Höner and Lodur.

After the world was created, Odin wandered over the new land masses with his brothers. One day they came to a seashore where there were two trees, an ash and an elm. From the ash the first man was created and from the elm the first woman, Ash and Embla. Odin gave them spirit. Hens gave intelligence and thought, while Lodur gave them vitality and color.
