Silver-plated brass and brass oxidize over time and become darker in color. To gently clean silver-plated brass, you can use baking soda, aluminum foil and boiling water. This chemical process removes oxidation (blackening) without damaging the plating through harsh rubbing.
How to do it (baking soda and foil method):
Line a bowl with aluminum foil, shiny side up. Place the item on the foil. Sprinkle 2-4 tablespoons of baking soda. Pour boiling water over it. Let it work for 10-15 minutes. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
