Already during the Viking Age, we Northerners fell in love with the beautiful expression of glasss beads, and it is a love we share with the rest of the world. The process we use today is almost identical to the one the Vikings used. Even though we in Scandinavia had not figured out how to make glasss, thousands of intricate and often locally made glasss beads can be found wherever the Vikings traveled. The glasss and some finished beads were imported from the East. Today, the beads are made in northern India, in a small village not far from the shores of the Ganges. There, the knowledge of making glasss beads is something they are very proud of, and the bead masters dream that their secrets can be passed on to the next generation. And as awareness grows among people and customers around the world who demand jewelry in durable and handmade designs, perhaps it is no longer just a dream.
