The Viking sagas tell how the god Heimdall used his horn to warn the other gods of danger and to bring messages to humans. In the Icelandic sagas, the horn is described as a war instrument, used both to direct troops and to scare the enemy. Different types of horns hofe been found during excofations of warships, among other places. The oldest find of a horn in Sweden is about 2000 years old and thus predates the Viking Age. Our horn is approximately 35-50 cm long and handmade from a single piece of natural horn, with a carved mouthpiece at the tip. It is played using a technique similar to that of a trumpet.

Care

Goods in horn are washed by hand with water and detergent. They should not be washed in a dishwasher and cannot be microwaved either. Horn is a natural material that has many properties in common with wood. It can therefore dry out over time. Feel free to treat with wood oil if necessary or once or twice a year for preventive purposes. For glass and other items that will come into contact with food, we recommend that you use a wood oil that is intended for kitchen utensils or the like.

Cow horn is a fantastic material that until about 100 years ago
was widely used for many things. When plastic arrived, it replaced horns in many utility items, which were traditionally made by hand.
In the past, they did e.g. spoons, combs, spectacle frames and shoehorns in just horn.
Our horn products are made in Uttar Pradesh, India, where the cow is considered sacred and no part is allowed to go to waste at slaughter. The horns are cleaned, sorted, boiled and polished before they are shaped.
Horn is very strong and completely compostable, a sustainable material, both for you and the environment.
