Our large jew's harp is hand-forged in iron, a model very typical of the Viking Age and early medieval period. The size is a little larger than the most commonly occurring finds. This gives an easier-to-play jew's harp. Our iron jew's harp has a slightly faster vibration and higher tones. It is not tuned to a particular key and varies from piece to piece.

The jew's harp is one of the world's oldest instruments and has spread across nearly the entire world in different variations. The jew's harp came from Russia to Europe during the Iron Age/early medieval period. Finds from the Viking Age exist in Norway and Denmark. On Gotland, among other things, a jew's harp in bronze from the Iron Age has been found.

Our jew's harps are hand-forged by members of the Nepalese musician caste. For thousands of years they have made their living playing traditional music. Their traditions also include making their own instruments. In modern society, interest in traditional music performed live is declining. The musicians in Nepal are therefore today a vulnerable group in an already poor country. Every jew's harp sold supports their work in continuing to be able to live in accordance with their traditions.
